Fades
Low, mid, high, skin: the fades explained
, 1 min read

Not sure which fade to ask for? Here's what each one looks like and who it suits, so you can sit in the chair knowing what you want.
A fade is any cut where the hair gets gradually shorter down the sides and back. Where that blend starts, and how short it goes, changes the whole look.
Low fade
The blend starts just above the ear and neckline. It's subtle and grows out gently, which makes it a safe first fade and a good fit for most workplaces.
Mid fade
Starting around the temples, a mid fade is the all-rounder: clean and sharp without being too dramatic.
High fade
The blend runs high up the head for strong contrast with the top. It suits bold styles like a high-top or a textured crop.
Skin, taper and burst
- Skin fade: goes right down to the skin for the sharpest contrast.
- Taper: only the sideburns and neckline are faded, for a softer, classic finish.
- Burst fade: curves around the ear, popular with mullets and curly tops.
